Orchestra's Conductor Masterclass

Supporting authentic growth in orchestral conducting

Not every lesson in conducting can be learned from the professor.

Some can only be learned from the orchestra itself.

The Orchestra's Conductor Masterclass was created around this idea.

Throughout the masterclass, the orchestra musicians are encouraged to observe, respond and ultimately vote for the conductors with whom they establish the strongest artistic and human connection. Their perspective becomes an essential part of the learning experience, emphasising the importance of chemistry, clarity, leadership and mutual inspiration. In this way, a concept first explored through the competition becomes a pedagogical environment centred on artistic development.

Each participant follows an individual path of artistic development guided by personal feedback. Rehearsals with the ensemble and direct dialogue with both the musicians and the mentor provide the environment in which technical development and artistic identity can evolve together.

The international character of the masterclass adds another important dimension to the experience. Conductors from different musical backgrounds work side by side, observing one another, exchanging ideas and discovering different artistic approaches. The result is a community of learning in which dialogue, reflection and shared experience become valuable parts of professional development.

Every participant leaves with new musical and human understanding. More importantly, they leave with a deeper sense of the relationship through which musicians most naturally become an orchestra. This is often the moment when a conductor's attention begins to shift — from their own intentions to the musical response of the ensemble. From that moment on, conductor and orchestra begin to grow together.
